Everyone wants to go out fishing and catch a lot of Bass. Of course, we want to catch big bass also. However, the more you catch the better your chances are of hooking up with a monster bass. The difference between catching 50 bass a day and 10 can be just a couple of details. These details are not just lure choices. Do not worry though, if you want some great bait choices for catching numbers I have included those at the end also. Let’s get started and teach you how to catch 10x more bass when you go fishing.

Have Options

When you go fishing it is best to have a bunch of rods with a bunch of different presentations tied on. That way you can cycle through different baits faster and will not have to retie. Once you get a bite with a bait you can stick with it until that bite dies down. It is important to figure out what is working as soon as possible.

This is a great way to enter into my next point. Get up early when you go fishing. It is no secret that fish bite the best early in the AM and later in the evening. If you get up early and get out right away you will get a better idea of what the fish are doing and be able to have a more successful day.

Change up Baits

Sometimes we have early success with a lure and we don’t want to put it down. The bite however will change throughout the day. If you are catching a lot on a crankbait in the morning and you notice that the bite dies down it is time to change.

Sometimes the conditions will change. If the wind is blowing and there is cloud cover it is probably a good option to throw moving baits like spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and crankbaits. If you have bluebird skies and no wind you might be better off throwing a Senko or a shaky head worm.

We all have our favorite way to catch fish. However, we can’t force the fish to do what we want. We have to fish the conditions.

Pay Attention to Your Conditions

Conditions play a huge roll in what the fish are doing and where they will be. Whenever I catch a bass or my partner catches a bass I will pay attention to how it all happened. How close to the bank or boat did it bite? Did you catch it by a piece of wood or grass? Was the bite aggressive or light? Did the bass choke the bait or just barely get the back hook? All of these are clues as to what you should do.

For example: Let’s say that you are fishing topwater and the fish are boiling at it but not fully committing and getting it. Maybe this happens a couple of times. That is a sign that you need to either downsize or put something under the water. I would probably throw a slightly smaller swimbait and have a lot more success.

Cover Water

In the morning you want to keep moving and cover the water. This is usually done by fishing something that is a fast-moving bait. When you catch a fish always cast back in that same area 2 times before moving on from an area. Pay attention to how and where you caught them and try and duplicate the same cast.

Pro Tip: You want to keep your bait in the strike zone as long as possible. So try throwing your baits parallel to the bank as opposed to perpendicular. Maybe you keep you boat ten foot off the bank and make long casts right along the bank. Find which depth is best and rinse and repeat.

However, the fast and furious power fishing pattern (using moving baits) may eventually die down. So you might have to eventually slow down.

Slow Down When Needed

Sometimes the way we can catch the most bass is by slowing down. Slow down for me usually means throwing something like a worm. Maybe a Texas Rig or a shaky head will help you get more bites. Casting at a target and slowly dragging it back to you is a great way to catch a lot of fish.

This technique usually works a little better when the sun is high. The bass will draw tight to the structure and try to find shade. You will want to target things like wood, laydowns, brush piles, grass, lily pads, and docks for the best chance of success.

Have the Right Line

Listen, ladies, and gents. A lazy angler never catches a lot of fish. I know it is easier to just tie on some braid and tie every single lure directly to it. Sometimes that is just fine if the water is super dark and muddy.

If you want to get more bites to try using a lighter line. I use the lightest line I can. You just have to remember that when you use a lighter line you cannot boat flip fish as much. You will also have to retie more. However, you will catch more fish with a lighter line. I feel like 8lb test Fluorocarbon is a great choice for anything that is underneath the water in most situations. If you are fishing topwater I would fish 10lb test clear monofilament.
