I am sooooo glad you made it here!!! Maybe you watched the YouTube video and wanted to know what the secret bait was all about. I am actually quite hesitant to give this bait away. But…….before we get into that let me give you a brief synopsis of what went down while fishing this weekend.
Friday: Me and my dad hit the lake up and checked the normal winter time ditches (some deep and some shallow). We find more of our success with the shallow pattern. But it wasn’t a great bite by any means.
Saturday: I got out with my fishing buddy Tom and I try to expand on what I learned on Friday. I got a couple bites here and there that caused me to look for something different. I knew that these fish were somewhere and they are big and ready to eat.
I am always on the lookout for the Mega School. I wanted to go to a spot where I fire up a school and get bites on every cast. So I suggested that we change areas. My friend Tom recommended that we try a spot that he had fished in the past in the area I was thinking. So now we had a plan and fired up the Yamaha and we were on our way. The spot was a secondary point that we pulled up to. Right away we started getting bites and seeing fish under and around the boat. We kept our boat in thirty foot of water at every spot and launched long casts on the point. We started to catch one after another, after another, after another!!! I fished spots that I had never fished before. But since it fit the pattern it really didn’t matter. You have to let the fish tell you what they want.
Sunday: I went to church and after church I asked my four year old if he wanted to go to fishing. THANKFULLY HE SAID YES. He had SNACKS and I had a tube and a goby jig head and we got back on the fish and started to catch them. Oops did I just give the secret bait away!!??
So the bait that I caught all my fish on was a TUBE in Green Pumpkin and/or Disco Candy 3.75 inch. Now there are several tube heads that you can use. The one I am about to share with you I feel truly does make a difference. I have fished the finesse tube with other people in the boat and used the same colors but different heads and have out fished them. This head makes a difference in my humble opinion. It can be a pain in the butt to rig so make sure you get the tube and jig head wet before you slide in the body of the bait.
Ok ok enough rambling….here is the tube head that I use. 1/2oz or 3/8oz will work just fine. This head flares the head of the tube out and I think the fish just like it better. I work it fast with a twitch twitch pause retrieve. Kind of like a jerk bait. And just like the jerk bait they will typically hit it on the pause.
The BITE: The bite with this can be tricky. A lot of times it takes a little while for them to full commit to this bait. Other times they inhale it. Give them time to get the bait. You do not have to rush this hook set. They will get it and hold onto it. “If you feel the weight, Don’t Debate.” SET THE HOOK. Also don’t be afraid to vertical drop on these fish with the tube. I have caught numerous fish this way as well.
I fully expect in the coming weeks that we will get more of a moving bait bite (MY FAVORITE). Spinner bait and jerk bait should really turn on soon. But in the interim I will be throwing my tube and catching some Pigs.
I hope you guys enjoyed this and even more I hope it helps you catch more fish. Do not forget to subscribe to this Blog to be eligible to receive Give Aways, Fishing reports, and much more. Also check me out on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook.
